Rectoly — Business Information
Last updated October 13, 2026
This page identifies the business behind Rectoly and sets out the terms of sale for Rectoly for Mendeley and Rectoly for Zotero, both one-time licences, as advertised on rectoly.com. It is the disclosure required of Japanese online sellers by Article 11 of the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (特定商取引法); the Japanese version is the version filed under that Act. The Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android editions are sold on this website. The Android app is distributed from this website too, and the app sends you to this website to make the purchase. The Mac edition is also distributed on the App Store. A purchase made through the App Store (the iPad and iPhone editions, and the Mac edition there) is governed by Apple's own terms and disclosures instead.

Purchases on this website (the Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android editions) are sold by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"),
our online reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle processes the payment, charges and remits any
applicable sales tax or VAT, issues the receipt, and pays out approved refunds. The
Paddle Buyer Terms also apply.
Qualified invoices under Japan's consumption-tax invoice system for purchases on this website are issued by Paddle. Paddle's qualified invoice issuer registration number is T3700150086889 (listed on the National Tax Agency's register as PADDLE.COM MARKET LIMITED, registered October 1, 2023). An invoice and receipt made out to an institution's name and address can be requested at checkout, or corrected once afterwards from the link in Paddle's email.
Purchases on the App Store are processed by Apple under the App Store's own policies. That includes the Mac edition when it is bought on the App Store.
- Payment methods
- Credit card, debit card, PayPal, and any other method Paddle offers at checkout. What is available depends on your country and device.
- When you are charged
- Immediately, when you confirm the order.
- Delivery
-
Immediately after payment completes. Nothing is shipped.
The App itself is free to download before you buy, and every feature is free for 14 days. The purchase unlocks the full App on every device signed in with the account you bought it with — your Mendeley account for Rectoly for Mendeley, your Zotero account for Rectoly for Zotero. One purchase can be shared across up to three accounts of the same product that you yourself use.
- Returns and cancellation
-
Because this is a digital product delivered immediately, we do not accept returns simply because you
changed your mind. We do, however, refund the purchase in full, for any reason, if you ask within 14
days of buying it.
Request a refund from the link in Paddle's receipt email, at paddle.net, or by emailing support@rectoly.com. See the Refund Policy for the details.
- System requirements
-
- Windows — Windows 10 (64-bit) or later, or Windows 11; 4 GB of memory, a dual-core processor, and 500 MB of free disk space (the installer is about 190 MB). No separate Java installation and no administrator rights are needed. 32-bit Windows is not supported, and Windows on ARM (Snapdragon machines) has not been tested. To translate papers on the PC itself, you need 8 GB of memory or more, a CPU with AVX2, and about 3 GB of additional free space (the translation model is about 2.5 GB); a Vulkan-capable GPU makes it faster. Without one, or with a slow machine, Rectoly may translate only the paragraphs on screen, or translation may be unavailable.
- Linux — Ubuntu 22.04, Linux Mint 21, Debian 12 or later (64-bit x86), installed from a .deb package; other distributions use the .tar.gz (glibc 2.35 or later). Linux on ARM is not supported. To translate papers on the machine itself, the requirements are the same as on Windows: 8 GB of memory or more, a CPU with AVX2, and about 3 GB of additional free space; a Vulkan-capable GPU makes it faster.
- Mac — macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later. Both the Mac edition sold on this website and the Mac edition on the App Store (the iPad app running on a Mac) need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 and later); Intel Macs are not supported. 4 GB of memory and 500 MB of free disk space.
- iPad — iPadOS 17.0 or later: iPad (6th generation), iPad mini (5th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), and iPad Pro (12.9-inch 2nd generation, 10.5-inch, 11-inch) or later.
- iPhone — iOS 17.0 or later: iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later.
- Android — Android 9 or later on 64-bit ARM devices. 32-bit devices and x86 Chromebooks are not supported. To translate papers on the device itself, you need 8 GB of memory or more and about 3 GB of additional free space (the translation model is about 2.5 GB). On a slow device, Rectoly may translate only the paragraphs on screen, or translation may be unavailable.
Signing in and syncing need an internet connection and your own Mendeley account (or your Zotero account for Rectoly for Zotero). Papers already downloaded to the device can be read offline.
For reference, the Windows edition used about 260 MB of memory on a machine with 4 GB of RAM and two cores.
The iPad and iPhone editions are distributed on the App Store. The Android edition is distributed on this website as an APK file (https://rectoly.com/android/) and also works on devices without Google Play. The Mac edition is distributed both on this website and on the App Store. All of them are free to download and try before you buy.
- Terms of sale
- One payment, once. This is not a subscription: nothing renews and nothing is charged again. The licence is for your own personal, non-commercial use. Apart from sharing it among up to three of your own accounts, it cannot be shared with anyone else, transferred, or resold.
Rectoly is not a backup service
Rectoly helps you read and annotate the library you keep in Mendeley or Zotero. It does not guarantee the preservation of your data. Always keep a backup in the official desktop app or in storage of your own. See the Terms of Use for the full statement.
